Northumberland has over forty reading groups or book clubs. The groups are friendly, informal places to discuss books and make friends.

We support the running of our reading group service, whereby we have collections of multiple copies of individual titles that anyone interested in running a reading group, (based in a library or somewhere in the community) can borrow copies free of charge. Reading Groups in Northumberland

Reading groups meet in a variety of places ranging from members homes and the library to cafes and other public places. Take a look at our list below:

Alnwick

  • Fairfields Reading Group meet the third Tuesday (approximately) of every month at 5.30pm at the leader’s home
  • Hipsburn Hounds Reading Group meet on a Tuesday evening (at the end of each month) at 7.30, in members homes.

Amble

  • Amble Reading Group meet at members’ homes on the last Wednesday of the month from 2-4pm.

Ashington

  • Ashington Library Book Group meets at Ashington Library on the second Monday of the month 5.30pm - 6.30pm.

Bedlington

  • Bedlington Station Reading Group meets at Bedlington Station Library on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 2pm.

Berwick

  • Berwick Community Reading Group meets at Berwick Library on the third Friday of the month at 6pm.
  • Berwick-upon-Tweed U3A Book Group 4 meets at the leader’s home on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 4-5.30pm. 
  • Berwick-upon-Tweed U3A Book Group 5 meets at members' homes on the 1st Tuesday of the month from 2pm.

Blyth

  • Blyth Readers meet at Blyth Central Methodist Church on the last Friday of the month at 10am. No meetings in August or December.

Coquetdale

  • Coquetdale Reading Group meets every Monday at 8pm. No meetings in August.

Cramlington

  • Another Good Read (U3A) meets at members' homes on the first Tuesday of the month at 2pm.
  • The Bibliophiles Reading Group meets 1st Monday of every month (except August) at the leaders home from 1-3pm. 

Ellington

  • Ready Readers Group meet at members’ homes on the third Monday of the month at 7pm.

Hexham

  • The Knitted Leeks Reading Group meets at members' homes on the first Thursday of each month at 8pm.
  • Hexham Library Book Group meets at Hexham Library once a month on the second Monday of the month at 6pm -7pm.
  • Slaley Book Group meets bi-monthly on the first Tuesday of each month at members’ homes. 

Morpeth

  • Causey Park Reading Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6.30pm.
  • The Group with No Name meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 8pm.
  • Morpeth VIP Book Group meets at Morpeth Library on the first Thursday of the month at 1.30pm - 3pm.
  • Morpeth NWR meets every two months in the evening.
  • Morpeth U3A Literature Group two meets at members' homes on the second Wednesday of the month.
  • Morpeth Men’s Book Appreciation Society meets monthly at The Sour Grapes, Newgate Street, Morpeth. Only open to men.
  • County Hall Reading Group meets at various lunchtimes. This group is happy to welcome new members, but as work based group the meetings are variable.

Newbiggin

  • Seasider Readers meets at Newbiggin Library on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm.

Ponteland

  • A Half Good Read Reading Group meets on the fourth Tuesday alternate months at 2pm.
  • Bookworms St Mary's meets at members' homes on the second Wednesday of the month in the evening.
  • Ponteland Bookworms meets at Ponteland Library on the last Tuesday of the month at 10.30am.

Prudhoe

  • Prudhoe Library Reading Group meets at the Parish Hall, Prudhoe on the third Tuesday of the month at 6.15pm.
  • Prudhoe U3A Book Group 2 meets monthly in the afternoon, days variable.

Tynedale

  • Bluebell Reading Group meets at members' homes every 4 - 6 weeks on Thursday at 8pm.
  • Gunnerton Reading Group meets at members' homes every 6 weeks on Wednesday at 7.30pm.
  • Haltwhistle W.I. Reading Group meets at members' homes on the second Tuesday of the month at 2pm.
  • Haydon Bridge Book group meets on the third Thursday of the month at 8pm. This group is currently full but a waiting list is in operation.
  • The Hill Top Browsers Group meets at members' homes on the third Monday of the month at 7.30pm.
  • Horsley Book Club meets at the Hearth Coffee Shop on the first Friday of the month at 4.30pm.
  • Wark Reading Group meets on the last Wednesday of month at 8pm. Wylam First School Mums Reading Group meets on a Friday 8pm (variable).
  • Haltwhistle Library Reading Group meets at the Comrades Club (Haltwhistle) the last Tuesday of the month at 7pm.

Widdrington

  • Widdrington Station Reading Group meets at Widdrington Library on the first Friday of the month at 2.00pm.

Other Reading Groups

Please note these reading/book groups do not receive their books through Northumberland Libraries.
