Please note: Hexham Library is currently located in Wentworth Car Park due to refurbishment of the Queen's Hall.  

From Monday 7 August a microfilm reader/printer and some of the most popular local history resources on microfilm have been relocated into the Customer Information Centre at Hadrian House in Market Street. Researchers wishing to make their own discoveries in back issues of the The Hexham Courant, look at census returns etc. will be able to do so during normal opening hours 9am-5pm Monday - Friday. This is a temporary service during the refurbishment.

A selection of local studies books to borrow and free access to Ancestry, Findmypast and The British Newspaper Archive online are all available in the library's temporary location at the former Hexham Tourist Information Centre in the Wentworth Car Park.

The Library houses the Brough Local Studies Collection, the second largest local history collection in the county at Queen's Hall.  The Tourist Information Centre is also located within Hexham Library.

Did you know we have free online resources that are available for all library members to use.  Some of these resources can only be used in the library like Ancestry or British Newspaper Archive. But some are even available for you to use at home like Theory Test Pro if you are doing your driving theory test. Find out more about online resources.

Which magazine is available at Hexham Library in paper format and so is access to the Which online portal.  Please ask a member of staff to log you in to the online version if you wish to look at it.  Please note this is only available on the Public PCs.

Regular Activities

  • An adult reading group meets on the second Monday of the month at 6pm till 7pm.
  • 'Reading Hack Group' meets every Wednesday during term time 4pm til 5pm.
