Northumberland Libraries have joined the Children’s University Passport to Learning Scheme. Passport to Learning encourages children to take part in learning activities outside the classroom and is managed in Northumberland by Leading Link Ltd.
Children between the ages of 7 to 14 years old (and 5 and 6 year olds with their families) can join the scheme and are issued with a Children’s University passport style Passport to Learning.
So, in libraries throughout Northumberland children simply have to participate in any validated learning activities (known as learning destinations) to get their passports stamped and collect certificates towards their graduation.
Library staff will record in the child’s passport the number of hours of completed validated learning activities they attend. For every hour they take part they work towards National Children’s University Awards which are presented at an annual Graduation Ceremony. Family members can also go to the graduation ceremony.
